FAQ's: Are Our Products Gluten-free?

There’s a lot of mixed messaging in the world about the impact of eating gluten, and it’s also a question we get asked about a lot here at Neat. So, whether you want to know if our products are gluten-free, or if you're just confused about what gluten actually is, we’re here to break it down for you:

FAQs: Do Our Products Contain Gluten? | Neat Nutrition. Active Nutrition, Reimagined For You.

What is gluten?

Gluten is the general name for the proteins found in cereal grains, such as wheat, rye, spelt and barley. It’s responsible for the elastic texture of these foods, acting as a glue to hold them together – it’s what gives bread that amazing doughy texture!

Is gluten bad for you?

For those with coeliac disease, gluten is a very serious issue. This is an auto-immune disease where the small intestine becomes inflamed and is unable to absorb nutrients. It can cause a wide range of symptoms, such as malnutrition, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. However, this is a lot less common than you might think - only affecting about 1 in 100 people. If you think you might be coeliac, your doctor can test, diagnose and advise you on this.

As the trend for going gluten-free has boomed, gluten intolerance or ‘sensitivity’ is another term we hear used a lot. This may affect another (very) small part of the population, although there is no test available to diagnose this properly. Nutrition is a very individual thing, and so if you think you might be sensitive to gluten, then elimination diets should always be done with the guidance of a doctor or dietician. Going gluten-free could reduce the number of healthy whole grains in your diet, such as barley and rye, and mean you’re consuming more refined alternatives, likely to spike your blood sugar levels.

But, back to the question, are our proteins gluten-free?

Yes! Both our whey and vegan proteins ARE gluten-free, so whether you choose to avoid gluten due to personal preference or dietary necessity, we’ve got your back!
