5 Active Holiday Destinations

If your dream holiday is lying by the pool with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other - only moving when it’s time to hit up the buffet - then this probably isn’t going to be the blog post for you! However, if you love adventure and exploring unknown destinations, then you’ll be sure to get all the travel inspiration from our top active holiday destinations. Whether you prefer to head out on foot, grab a bike or climb the nearest cliff, we’ve got just the thing for you!

The Alps

The Alps is a well-known winter spot for skiing and snowboarding fanatics, which is one of our favourite active holidays. There’s nothing better than days out in the fresh air that has your legs and lungs burning – making that post-workout fondue and glass of mulled wine seem even sweeter! But even when the snow has melted, the Alps is an awesome destination for active holiday-goers. Stay in a cosy wooden chalet and spend your days out in the sunshine, hiking or biking around lakes, meadows and mountains – that’s what we call a rejuvenating holiday! We love the charming town of Zermatt, Switzerland, which not only boasts some of the best views of the Alps but is also known for being super eco-friendly thanks to the popularity of electric cars.

Brazil

The home of Acai and a whole host of other superfoods, Brazil is the place to head for seriously fresh food and sun-soaked fitness. Even in dense cities such as Rio, you’ll find workout stations all along Copacabana, as well as a hundred games of beach volleyball, and when the sun sets you can join the locals, dancing the samba until the early hours! Heading away from the city’s madness is the place to explore Brazil’s rich nature, whether that’s swimming through crystal clear waters at Poco Azul or heading into the Amazon to search for jaguars.

LA, USA

When many people think about LA, they think of theme parks and fast food, however this popular US destination also has a huge health and wellness community. Hike up to the Hollywood sign like a true tourist and grab lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter or Café Gratitude, where the fully vegan menu is named after different affirmations. When you’re in need of a serious workout, grab a surf board or skateboard and soak up some sunshine, or experience the luxury LA lifestyle at one of the many boutique studio’s, such as Soul Cycle or Rise Nation.

New Zealand

Surfing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, abseiling, bungee jumping, skiing… whatever your heart desires you’ll find it in New Zealand! Queenstown is the mecca for any serious adrenaline junkies, while the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park will be where any keen walkers and wildlife-lovers will never want to leave. The North Island has plenty of highlights too, including legendary surfing at Raglan and one of the world's best one-day walks at the Tongariro Crossing.

Vietnam

If you’re an avid cycler, no-one does cycling holidays better than Vietnam. It’s a great way to explore the diverse culture and landscapes. Start in Saigon after a couple of days of Vietnamese history and venture north to chaotic, traffic-heavy Hanoi through endless fishing villages and rolling rice fields.

Don’t forget to stop off in Dalat, a truly unique town, to try out their famous canyoning experience. Jump down waterfalls with a variety of stomach-turning techniques, including abseiling sheer faces and jumping into deep pools – it’s not for the faint-hearted!
