Getting The Glow In Winter

Winter is amazing for many reasons - the Christmas festivities, thick, warm scarves and nights spent sipping mulled wine in front of the fire - but it's not so amazing for your skin. The bitterly cold winds and lack of sunlight paired with poor festive food choices and late nights of partying can leave many of us feeling less than glowing! So if you're looking to get back that dewy skin you had during summer, here's some of our top tips...

Winter Skincare Tips: Glow | Neat Nutrition. Clean, Simple, No-Nonsense.

Take Shorter Showers

Although a long, hot shower can be so tempting whilst it’s bitterly cold outside, it’s not great for your skin and can in fact strip away the natural oils in your skin. Try to stick to a 5-minute shower, and moisturising with a cocoa butter once you get out. Struggling to tempt yourself out of that lovely shower? Pop your towel on the radiator to make it that little bit easier…

Fill Up On Fats

Feeling like your complexion looks a little dull? A lack of fat can actually dry out your skin, so make sure your diet is full of plenty of healthy fats such as avocados, nuts or salmon to give your skin just what it needs. Try this Neat-packed Choca Mocha Avocado Mousse for a super sweet way to eat your healthy fats.

Go Very Berry

A powerful (and cheap!) anti-aging solution can be food right in your fridge! Raspberries protect the collagen that keeps your skin looking plump, thanks to being full of ellagic acid, an antioxidant that has been shown to prevent wrinkles. Throw them in a smoothie to nourish your skin from the inside out, or mash them up with honey to make a homemade face mask.

Drink More Water

We might say it all the time, but if clear skin is what you’re after, then drinking enough water has to be top of your priority list. It’s not all that surprising when you realise that water helps to clear out toxins, prevent dehydration and transport nutrients to your skin cells. Struggling to get in those recommend 8 glasses of water during the winter? Try sipping a herbal tea or a glass of warm water and lemon to add a little flavor and warmth to your hydration!

Clean Up Your Smartphone!

Most of us are obsessed with our phones, and spend hours each day calling, texting and scrolling through social media. Yet it's been suggested that your touchscreen smartphone can have more germs than a public toilet! If you find yourself gaining blemishes and irritations on your face, especially around where you hold your phone, make sure to wipe it down regularly with antibacterial wipes.
