It’s been quite a year on the Neat blog. We’ve packed your feed with all kinds of content, from protein powder-based recipes, to top travel tips; there’s been something for everyone! As always, we’d love to hear from you on what kind of content you’d like in 2020. Until then, let’s take a look back at some of your favourites from the year…
Protein powder and active nutrition has historically been a confusing market. From day one, it’s been our goal at Neat to help cut through this confusion and make protein supplements easy to understand. Our most popular educational content this year did just that, with an in-depth look at a couple of key questions:
Should You Take Protein on Rest Days?
As you likely know, rest days are an essential part of any training plan, as they give your body the time it needs to rest and repair. On these days, you still need plenty of carbs, fats and our dear friend protein to help aid recovery. In fact, not getting enough protein on rest days can actually hinder your muscle growth and athletic performance.
Can You Pre Mix a Protein Shake?
By mixing your protein powder with a liquid, the protein will start to break down into amino acids - which means it's ready to replenish your body and refuel our muscles. This won't have an impact on the protein content, but it does mean it's unlikely to taste fresh...
We think protein powder (and our protein powder subscriptions) can fit with any lifestyle, from working mums to training athletes – and especially working mum’s who are training athletes! Here’s a couple of highlights from our lifestyle content this year that centre on training, and how Neat co-founder Lee balances work and life:
The 5 Best Exercises for Building Lean Muscle
The answer to building lean muscle in the gym is compound lifts - exercises that work multiple muscle groups at the same time. Why? By working more muscles you’ll build more strength, burn more calories and gain more overall muscle mass. It’ll spike the fat-burning, muscle-building hormones that will give you the body you want.
Co-Founder, Lee Forster on Finding Work-Life Balance Whilst Growing a Global Business
“Ultimately, I work on the rule that when I am working, I work, and nothing else creeps in to distract that. I don’t try and do bits of everything at once; I keep them separate and get something done before moving on to the next.”
We’ve always loved incorporating protein powder into recipes and having Neat as a kitchen essential. This year was no different and we stepped up the recipe creation with our single-serve pouches making it easier than ever to add a protein boost to our favourite treats.
Nutella Protein Balls
Is there any better combination than Nutella and peanut butter? These chocolatey bites are packed with the protein you need for a pre or post workout snack. Technically they'll last in the fridge for up to a week, but they certainly didn't last that long at Neat HQ!
Hot Bircher Muesli
A batch of this bircher muesli will last you 4-5 days in the fridge and will be ready for you to eat on the run or to heat up quickly in the morning. That's right, hot bircher is the new HOT thing! Although if you'd rather play it safe, it's just as delicious eaten cold and the cheeky spices will keep you warm inside.
Chocolate Mint Smoothie
If you like your smoothies thick, then this is chocolate mint shake is the one for you! Made creamy with frozen banana, avocado, and chocolate whey protein, it's a slightly more nutritious way to enjoy a classic festive flavour combo...
